Gejon punishes Thai

WORLD-ranked Eriberto “Yukka” Gejon is on his way to getting another chance to fight for a world title, following his dominating victory over Wisan Sor Suchanya of Thailand last Saturday evening at the Rajah Solaiman Park in Manila.

Despite his long inactivity, the technically gifted Gejon toyed with Wisan from start to finish, before the ringside judges scored the bout after the 10 rounds.

Two judges scored 100-91 and the third scored 100-90, all for the WBA No.1 and IBF No.4 Mandaue City warrior.

The victory improved Gejon’s record to 23-1-1, with 14 knockouts (KOs) while Wisan dropped to 8-5-1, with 2KOs.

In the undercard of the event promoted by Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao, featherweight Roel Laguna scored an eight round technical knockout win over Mervin Batolina to improve his ring record to 6-1, 3KOs.

However, erstwhile undefeated flyweight Bogie Delada succumbed to the in-fighting style of Danilo Peña as the Mambajao, Camiguin power puncher suffered his first defeat by TKO at the fifth round. The defeat dropped Delada to 12-1, 10 with KOs while Peña improved 7-3, 4KOs.

Another former undefeated Cebuano prospect and light flyweight campaigner Apol Suico (9-1, 6KOs) lost to a better fighter – the much heavier super flyweight campaigner Danilo Lerio (13-1, 2KOs), a former Olympian by TKO at the second round.
