Thursday, March 08, 2007 Glo in Cebu for women’s congress
PRESIDENT Arroyo will arrive at the Mactan Benito Ebuen Airbase at noon today for a two-day stay in Cebu.
First of her activities will be at the social hall of the Cebu Provincial Capitol, where various groups will gather for the Cebu Women’s Day celebration.
Arroyo, however, will not deliver a speech at the Capitol because by then she would have already given her National Women’s Day address in Malacañang.
The women’s groups, celebrating the day with the theme “Strengthening Participatory Governance with Women,” plan to present to the President some resolutions that they will approve before Arroyo arrives.
At 3 p.m., Arroyo will grace the opening ceremonies of the Philippine Councilors’ League 2007 end-term national assembly at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).
She will speak before councilors from all over the country, the same group that members of the Team Unity senatorial slate will try to woo tomorrow.
Tomorrow morning, the President is scheduled to give a statement at the plenary session of the 2007 Philippine Development Forum at the Marco Polo Hotel.
The forum, where the Philippine Government will present 10 priority projects for possible funding, will be attended by representatives of donor countries.
The 10 “high-impact” projects cost almost P83 billion and will be presented to Official Development Assistance partners.
Four of the 10 projects are roads and bridges while the rest are rail projects, power projects and irrigation. None of the priority projects are for Cebu.
“We invite our development partners to support these infrastructure projects that are seen to immediately benefit our people by generating jobs and creating a better quality of life as well as improve the country’s competitiveness,” said Finance Secretary Gary Teves, chairman of the Philippines Development Forum.
The biggest project is worth P35.5 billion, which is the construction of the Light Rail Transit Line 6 that will extend from Baclaran to Parañaque, Las Piñas and the towns of Bacoor, Imus and Dasmariñas in Cavite. (JPM)
