Saturday, March 10, 2007 Bautista, Amonsot to receive youth awards in Bohol today
BOHOLANO boxing sensations Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista and Czar Amonsot will lead the recipients for the Young Boholano Achievers awards, who are set to be feted today at the President Carlos Garcia Sports Complex in Tagbilaran City.
The awarding ceremony is being held in line with Bohol’s Youth Day Celebration event, which is organized by the Provincial Government of Bohol, the National Youth Commission and the Sangguniang Kabataan Provincial Federation.
“The program aims to foster camaraderie and friendship among the Boholano young people, present to the provincial officials the Bohol Youth Development Plan, keep abreast of the recent development efforts on youth development, recognizes young Boholano achievers and to officially launch the Green Philippines Program (EO 579) of Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the Barkada Kontra Droga Program of the Dangerous Drugs Board,” read Benjie Oliva, the chairman of the Young Boholano Achievers Screening Committee, from the invitation sent to the ALA Boys fighters.
Bautista was chosen for his continued meteoric rise to the world of professional boxing, for winning many national and international boxing match and for winning the vacant WBO Intercontinental and WBO Youth Super-Bantamweight titles over Mexican Marino Montiel Gonzales last Feb. 24 here in Cebu City.
Amonsot, on the other hand, will be given the award for winning the WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight crown over Korean Young Sung Kim last Feb. 9 in Seoul, South Korea by a hard-earned split decision.
Their respective successes gave honor and pride to the Boholanos and their province. Both fighters have been the inspirations to the young Boholanos since they made waves in professional boxing. (RCM)
