Jacob wins first round in Manila

PRODIGIOUS Cebuano netter Jacob Lagman is fighting solo in Parañaque, moving to the second round of the Pablo R. Olivarez Age Group Tennis Tournament yesterday.

The 11 year old of St. Benedict Learning Center, who is the lone Cebuano in the competition, advanced to the next round of the Boys 12 division after trampling on the hapless Darwin delos Reyes of Santa Mesa, in Lagman’s trademark, 6-0, 6-0 bashing.

The young netter, who is the top-ranked player in the tournament, has won a huge percentage of his games this year without allowing his opponent to score a single game against him.

Lagman is set to take on Kyle Parpan of Tarlac for his next assignment. Lagman only started playing in this division this year, after years of dominating the 10 under group.

According to his mother Julie, Jacob’s participation in the tournament will serve as his warm up to the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association, which is slated next weekend in Dumaguete City.

Lagman will be representing Cebu in the elementary boys division, where he is gunning for a slot to the region’s team that will compete in the Palarong Pambansa.

Meanwhile, Lagman will be renewing his contract with Head, a top racket brand. Lagman has been an endorser to the brand and he will have a fresh stint starting today when he signs the contract alongside his mom. (MCB)
