Friday, March 16, 2007 Speak out: Lampposts fiasco By Anne Cacanog
I AM a 1first year psychology student of the University of San Carlos.
I am saddened by the fact that millions of pesos were lost just for the purchase of lampposts for the Asean summit when instead the money could have been used to help the fire victims of Barangays Mantuyong and Guizo.
I think there was collusion between the Mandaue City Government and the Department of Public works and Highways on the approval and purchase of the said lampposts.
If there was none, the overpricing should have been questioned.
We were also victims of the fire that gutted the Mandaue market years ago. My mother had a carenderia and because of that fire, we lost a livelihood that my family relied on.
I just don't have proof that the market was burned on purpose so that "they" can get the insurance money. If this is true, it only shows how corrupt our local government is.
But this lamppost fiasco takes the cake. "They" really have very thick faces.
I hope the auditors catch these crooks and send them to jail and may the people of Mandaue vote wisely and pray that the results won't be doctored.
