Jaguars, Cobras in VAAA finals
THE UNIVERSITY of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars and the Southwestern University Cobras forged a battle that will determine the first-ever Visayas Amateur Athletic Association (VAAA) basketball kings.
This after disposing separate opponents Thursday in the crossover semifinals held at the University of San Carlos gym.

The La Fortuna Bakeshop-backed Jaguars built a 22-point lead at the half to cushion the impact of the second half blitz of the Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology Skyblazers for a 109-97 win.
Surge
The Cobras, for their part, used a strong final quarter surge to beat the depleted University of San Carlos Warriors, 82-76.
Lyndon Gudez and John Malinao bored holes through the Skyblazers’ net to lead a Jaguars uprising in the second period and give their team a 62-40 lead at the bend.
The Skyblazers came roaring back in the third canto behind the triumvirate of Lowie Cabrera, Calma and Jabadan as SIT outscored the Jaguars, 31-19, and slash the deficit to 10 points entering the final period.
“This is really our problem, our defense. We could not let such things happen in the finals especially against the Cobras who are also laden with talents and got height,” USJ-R coach Edito Salacot told Sun.Star-Cebu, referring to his team’s third-quarter collapse.
“No excuses. USJ-R is a very strong team and they beat us because we didn’t have enough weapons to play against them. They’re taller, more experienced and more talented. But I’m proud of my boys for playing that well,” said SCSIT coach Giovanni Romarate.
