Seventy of them finished the basic computer literacy program while others completed their advanced courses in desktop publishing and basic computer programming. Four students finished a dressmaking course.
“YouthLinks only caters to out-of-school youths who wanted to learn but cannot afford to,” said Fr. Arthur Navales, archdiocesan Commission on Youth (COY) chairman.
“This is a way of giving them back their dignity,” said Navales.
He said the project was started by Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal in July last year in partnership with the Department of Manpower Development and Placement.
Vidal told the graduates yesterday that “even the poor deserve quality education.”
“Today, everybody is happy because the Lord has been good to the new batch of out-of-school youths,” he said.
“The graduates were not only in practical training; they were also being formed to be good Christians through seminars,” said Navales.
The students only paid P256 for the three-month training to subsidize the food and transportation expenses of their teachers. (NRC)
