EMB 7 monitors Mactan beaches
COLIFORM concentration in four of seven Mactan, Cebu beaches that attract tourists is high, a recent Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) 7 study showed.
The problem, however, is not serious enough to warrant penalties.

EMB 7 Director Alan Arranguez said they monitored nine Central Visayas beaches under their Beach Ecowatch Program the entire 2006 and noted contamination in four areas.
Fecal coliform contamination is often associated with ear infections, dysentery, typhoid fever, viral or bacterial gastroenteritis and hepatitis A.
Arranguez said they advised slight modifications to eliminate the source of contamination. (AIV)
