Mayoral bets complete slates

FORMER allies Joven Mondigo and Ricardo Ramirez have both completed their respective slates in their efforts to get the mayoral seat in Medellin, northern Cebu.

Mondigo, currently on his last term as a member of the Provincial Board (PB), yesterday said that his lineup is “ready for battle.”

Preparations

“We are well-organized and are in the thick of preparations for a full-blown campaign after March 29, the last day of filing of certificates of candidacy,” Mondigo said over the phone.

Ramirez, who is on his last term as vice mayor of Medellin, also said yesterday that his lineup is a “mixture of youth and experience.”

“It’s a slate that would make Medellin proud,” Ramirez said.

Runningmates

Running alongside Mondigo is incumbent Mayor Manreza Lim, who is on her last term. She will seek the vice mayoralty post.

Ramirez’s runningmate, meanwhile, is former PB member and now Medellin Councilor Michael Miranda.

Ramirez used to head the Vice Mayors’ League while Miranda is former head of the Philippine Councilors’ League in Cebu.

Mondigo’s slate for the council includes reelectionist Councilors Alfonso Lim (son of the mayor), Cesar Lambo and Petronilo Villarin, and newcomers Dioscoro Suan and Melchor Rosos.

Suan is a businessman while Rosos used to serve as the town’s postmaster.

Reelectionists

Completing the slate are Luy-a Barangay Captain Samuel Luciño, former military man Bebot Desaville and Ruben Yuson, former barangay captain of Lamintac Norte.

Ramirez’s slate, meanwhile, includes reelectionist Councilors Pablo Ygot and Rene Olivar, lawyers Joseph Dublin and Rolando Pedroza, engineer Raul Quijano, Lamintak Sur Barangay Captain Condrado Mangubat, Panugnawan Barangay Captain Porferio Cuyos and Luy-a Councilor Carol Embalzado.

Foe

Both Ramirez and Mondigo were known allies of former congressman Celestino “Junie” Martinez Jr., who is the political head of the district and husband of Rep. Clavel Asas-Martinez (Cebu, fourth).

But Mondigo is now a supporter of Martinez’s political foe, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia. (JPM)
