Police sent away for election duty get to vote early
POLICE officers rendering election duties can still exercise their right to vote.
The Philippine National Police already ordered all regional offices to start accounting for personnel who can vote but may be assigned to areas where they are not registered.

Senior Supt. Lani-o Nerez, Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Task Force Hope (Honest, Orderly and Peaceful Elections) commander, though, said those who will cast their votes cannot vote for local candidates.
“They can only vote for national positions,” he said.
The local absentee voting for police personnel is on April 28 to 30.
Police Director Nicolas Pasinos, the PNP Directorate for Personnel and Records Management, told all national support unit commanders and regional, provincial, and city directors to submit a list of personnel who are qualified to enjoy the scheme.
He ordered that they secure a list of registered voters under their supervision, and a sworn request for the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) Committee on Local Absentee Voting.
The information indicating the place and precinct number where the applying police officers are registered, and the place of their assignment on the May 14 elections, should also be attached.
Pasinos set March 7 as the deadline for submission of the list, but Nerez said they have not finalized it yet.
Until then, Nerez could not yet say how many in the Central Visayas will be included in the scheme.
He, however, said the provincial and city police offices are already consolidating the names of qualified police officers.
Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao Jr., PNP spokesperson, said members are encouraged to exercise their right to vote either by going to the poll precincts on election day or by availing of the local absentee voting.
“But beyond encouraging them to vote, the PNP commanders are reminded to strictly stay apolitical by refraining from influencing their subordinates on who to vote for in the upcoming May 14 elections,” read a Camp Crame statement. (MEA)
