MURDER suspect Michel Favila Sr. reportedly lost his right leg after undergoing an operation last Friday morning conducted by a team of physicians at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).
A source at the hospital told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday it was a “below the knee amputation” on Favila’s right leg.
The operation was performed three days after the court granted Favila’s request to be confined at the hospital. He is diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, which explains he has developed gangrene in his right foot.
VSMMC public relations officer Eleodoro “Nonoy” Mongaya Jr., in a text message sent to Sun.Star Cebu said, “I have no information yet from the hospital as of now.” He said Dr. Gerardo Aquino, the new VSMMC chief, will officially give Favila’s medical bulletin at 3 p.m. today.

Orlando Salatandre, Favila’s lawyer, in a brief mobile phone interview yesterday, said he was not yet aware about it. He said he will contact the hospital today to inquire about the operation.
Favila, a member of the Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association (PBMA) who came to Cebu from Cagayancillo, Palawan, was accused of shooting to death lawyer Arbet Sta. Ana-Yongco in her house last Oct. 11, 2004.
Yongco was the private prosecutor in the parricide case of former Dinagat Island mayor and PBMA supreme head Ruben Ecleo Jr.
Ecleo is accused of killing his wife Alona in January 2002. (JST)
