Seares: Near fistfight with Tingting By Pachico A. Seares News Sense
THIS paper reported about a near fistfight Friday in the Palace of Justice between ex-governor Tingting de la Serna and a person he was suing in court over a condo unit.
Fists didn’t fly. Boxing match it almost was, near fistfight as in “near accident.”
Do things that didn’t happen, only nearly happened, get into the news?
Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007
It was in a court hallway, not in private space. And in it figured an ex-governor who’s seriously thinking about running for Congress.
And that’s no dull race. It’s over a prize House seat held by Rep. Nerry Ruiz, who’s challenged by Luigi Quisumbing, who’s grandson of businessman NQ Jr., who’s at odds with Mandaue Mayor Ted Ouano, who’s bullied by Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, who’s mean to Lahug Bry. Chief Mary Ann delos Santos, among others.
Inter-related. And it offered fresh glimpse of Tingting who years before quit politics because of an achy-braky heart.
When governor, Tingting gave occupants of prime lots chance to buy them, opened Capitol doors to noisy militants, and hired an aide who practiced law illegally before quack lawyering became a fashion. Comeback
Tingting, whom Sonny Osmeña took in as virgin politician ages ago, plans a “comeback” this May.
Which invites the sneaky suspicion Sonny is tapping him again to spoil chances of Inday Nerry, the ex-senator’s ex-protege.
About that near fistfight: Intended or not, it showed a fighting Tingting who can, but didn’t, trade punches with an alleged jerk.
With money from land sale, Sonny’s help, and a mended heart, Tingting might swing political fists again.
