Local World Youth Day in south towns

THE 22nd celebration of the Local World Youth Day (LWYD) will be held in Alcantara, Cebu on March 30 and 31, and April 1.

Hosting the event together with Alcantara are the towns of Barili, Dumanjug, Ronda, Moalboal and Badian.

The event’s theme is a line from the Gospel of John: “Just as I have loved you, you also love one another (John 13:34).”

LWYD is the celebration of World Youth Day in the archdiocesan level. Last year, the LWYD was incorporated into a tribute event for Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, who was celebrating his “year of jubilees.”

The young people will have a vigil with Vidal, who in turn will give his message for the youth based on the celebration’s theme.

While the parish in Alcantara is the venue of the celebration, it will also accommodate the southwest Cebu parishes and volunteers from the Commission on Youth.

The other districts will be accommodated by the parishes in the towns of Barili, Dumanjug, Ronda, Moalboal and Badian.

The celebration will start with a parish tour and will end with a cultural night on the first day. On the second day, the vigil with Vidal will take place. The whole event will culminate with a dawn mass with Vidal. (NRC)
