Bitbit gets support
HER trip to the Arafura Games may have been hampered, but Baby Maritess Bitbit, Cebuana cycling standout still has a reason to celebrate.
This after Greater Cebu Sports Organizing Committee (GCSOC), sensing Bitbit’s needs, promised to back her up, most importantly in her bids in international competitions, that is log jammed in her schedule for the year.

“When we talked over the phone about the cancellation of her trip, we were able to discuss about the problems that she encounters having trained far away from home,” GCSOC executive director Allan Torrevillas said.
“I am more inspired to train now knowing that someone will back me up,” said Bitbit, who only the other day, was down the dumps after her mother organization, Philippine Cycling federation, prevented her from competing in the Arafura Games.
Philcycling will only allow her if she travels with the usual entourage of coach, mechanic and team manager, a requirement laid out by Philcycling to protect RP’s VIP in cycling.
Bibit, a Toledo City native, is a gold medalist in the mountainbike cross-country event during 2005 Sea Games, which was held in Danao City, and has been touted as the country’s best bet for the coming Sea Games and Beijing Olympics next year.
Bitbit is receiving a monthly allowance of P11,000, being a class A athlete. (MCB)
