Friday, March 23, 2007 Injunction to stop Pacquiao fight nixed
MANNY Pacquiao’s fight against undefeated Mexican Jorge Solis is on after a US court junked Golden Boy Promotions‘ move to have the fight cancelled.
Philboxing.com reported yesterday that “A Las Vegas court has denied the petition of Golden Boy Promotions seeking a preliminary injunction to stop the April 14 fight between Manny Pacquiao and Jorge Solis in which Golden Boy claimed they had the promotional rights for Pacquiao.”
GBP, owned by Oscar dela Hoya is locked in a court battle with Top Rank, owned by Bob Arum, as to which outfit has the right to promote Pacquiao.
Both camps contend that Pacquiao signed separate contracts with them.
With the latest hurdle out, Pacquiao is set to fight anew in the state where he gained prominence following a scintillating 11 round TKO of Marco Antonio Barrera in 2003.
P250 million
A report in the website said Pacquiao is set to receive some $5 million (close to P250 million) for the fight, aside from the reported $800,000 Solar Sports is paying him for the rights to air the fight.
Meanwhile, Solis, who has 32 wins with two draws, was a no show during yesterday’s press conference.
Solis, who has announced that he will do to Pacquiao what the Pinoy did to Barrera in 2003, was reportedly still in Guadalajara to process his Visa. (ML)
