Another victim was a cook at the canteen of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Cebu City Chapter.
The first to fall was Leonardo B. Bastida, 32, of Consolacion, Cebu. Two men killed him at 9:10 p.m. Friday, at the corner of F. Gonzales and Lincoln Sts. in Barangay Sto. Niño.
Bastida was watching a local game called dama when the perpetrators appeared from behind, shot him once in the back of his head, then fled towards Unit III of the Carbon Market.
Insp. Mario Monilar, Homicide Section chief, told reporters yesterday they are still verifying if the incident was carried out by vigilantes.
Monilar said unverified reports indicated that Bastida was an ex-convict. The Homicide Section will check today with the jail officials if Bastida had any criminal records.
Bastida’s body was taken to St. Francis Funeral Homes for autopsy.
Date cut
Fifteen minutes later Bastida was shot, a second-year nautical student was gunned down at the corner of Escario Ext. and Acacia St. in Barangay Camputhaw.
Jude Dominic Villano, 19, who lived in PBL Housing, Busay and was a member of the Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity, died of a gunshot wound in the back, minutes after he was taken to the Perpetual Succour Hospital.
Two witnesses described the perpetrator as 5’8" tall, slim and fair-skinned. He wore a black shirt and jeans.
Homicide Section investigators, led by PO3 Roger Nedamo, learned that Villano and his girlfriend were walking when someone shot the victim in the back.
At 11:30 p.m., an altercation resulted in the killing of 29-year-old Richardson L. Bangus in Sitio Paglaum, Calamba.
Bangus was reportedly shot in the back by his drinking buddy, who was only identified as Eboy.
Bangus and the suspect were drinking when they began arguing. Bangus allegedly punched Eboy in the face. Eboy pulled out a gun and fired.
Bangus was taken to the hospital but died at 5 a.m. yesterday.
Love triangle
More than an hour later, the same team of investigators rushed to Caimito St., Basak-San Nicolas after receiving a report that a man was found dead along the road, with gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.
The man was identified by the investigators as Glenn V. Gantuangco, a cook of the IBP-Cebu canteen and a resident in the area.
The investigators found Gantuangco lying on his back. His body was taken to Eternal Funeral Homes for autopsy.
Initial investigation revealed that Gantuangco was heading home when the suspect, Reynaldo “Tiboy” Años, waylaid him and shot him several times.
Police failed to arrest Años, the victim’s neighbor. He reportedly fled from the area, bringing his family with him.
A love triangle has been looked into as a possible motive. (JST)
