Arthro debus in MVBA

PRE-season champion Arthro-Atan Guardo will make its debut today when the second season of the Mindanao-Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) opens at the Xavier University Gym in Cagayan de Oro City.

The Arthro Kontra Arthritis squad, which won the MVBA Pre-season title in Cebu City last Feb. 24 and the Araw ng Dabaw basketball tournament plum, will play against another newcomer, Duterte-Davao Agilas, in the opening match following the hour-long opening ceremony.

SBP-BAP president Manuel Pangilinan, vice chairman Ricky Vargas and Fritz Gaston are the invited guests of honor in the ceremony.

Coach Al Solis has kept his championship-snaring team intact and the Arthro squad will again be led by Joseph Ronald Quiñahan and Solis’ deadly backcourt tandem in Alex Cainglet and Allain Abellanosa.

Quiñahan will get help underneath from muscleman Bernie Ursal, Leode Garcia, Rino Berami and Marvin Mercado when they face the veteran-laden Agilas, which is headed by Randy Penerio, Jeff Bajenting, JR Atablanco and Christopher Jatico.

In the main game, host Holcim Pryce-MisOr will renew its rivalry with back-to-back champion, M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu City Jewelers.

The Jewelers will parade an intact team with the addition of Marphyl Limbo, who will replace Jayford Rodriquez.

MisOr, which will miss the services of ex-pro Gilbert Demape, will be parading new recruits Lowell Briones, Mark Ababon and Randy Sevilla. (RCM)
