THE country’s second most popular fighter, Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista, is thrilled with his upcoming appearance in the undercard of the Oscar De La Hoya versus Floyd Mayweather Jr. 12-round battle for the WBC Jr. Middleweight title on May 5 at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Last night, Bautista and fellow ALA Boy AJ “Bazooka” Banal departed for Los Angeles, California and will be pushing on to Puerto Rico to complete their training for the “Cinco de Mayo” boxing card.
“I am honored to fight under the De La Hoya vs. Mayweather fight. This is the most anticipated boxing match and being part of it gives a lot of pride to me. That’s why I trained hard and will train even harder to make the country proud of me,” said the WBO Inter-Continental and WBO Youth super bantamweight champion Bautista before boarding the plane last night.
Bautista knows that many Filipinos will be watching him around the world and this will be his chance to prove that he is worth rooting for. “My first goal is to win. Win the fight convincingly and if there will be any chances to win by knockout I will go for it,” said Bautista.
However, his opponent is just as eager as him to showcase his wares to the world. Sergio Manuel Medina is an undefeated fighter from Salta, Argentina and the WBO No.2 super bantamweight contender. (RCM)
