Monday, March 26, 2007 DTCC wins 6 of 10 events in quarterlies; Maderas snag slots in nat’l team
THE Dance Sport Team Cebu City fielded only a token delegation to the Dancesport Council of the Philippines, Inc.’s quarterly rankings tournament but the Cebuanos managed to seize six gold medals in 10 events.
Unlike the 50-couple group that DTCC usually sends, only 12 pairs competed last Saturday night in the DSCPI quarterly rankings at the Philsports Multi-purpose Arena in Pasig City.
“We sent a smaller group this time because we are channeling the group’s funds to the various projects that we have,” said DTCC director Ed Hayco.
DTCC has its hands full with back-to-back summer workshop, a goodwill project aimed mostly in the baragays and the Dance on Fire, which is a fund-raiser for the upcoming international event later this year.
“We are refocusing the team’s energy on competition again in December,” Hayco added, referring to the concluding tournament in December.
Meanwhile, real-life couple Joel and Anna Madera snagged a slot to the national team after placing third in the standard event of the Sea Games selection.
However, Cebu’s pride, Dearlie Gerodias and Errole Melencio, were not as lucky after bombing out of the RP team. Gerodias and Melencio were silver medalists in the 2005 Sea Games held here in Cebu.
In last Saturday’s competition, DTCC’s charge was spearheaded by International Children’s Games gold medal winners Jefferson Pimentel and Daine Xylene Balili.
The duo, who stamped class in the samba event in the ICG last year in Thailand, flaunted their mastery once more this time standard and latin events of the division.
Another double gold medal winner is the pair-up of Jumil Bacalso and Virgiani Oyao, who strutted their wares in the Standard and Latin events of the Youth A division.
In the Seniors division, leading the assault are the gold winners in last year’s US Road Show. Renante Saldu and Ricca Alix dominated in the Senior C standard dances, while Tom Ingan and Eleanor Hayco topped in the Standard event of the Senior A division.
DTCC’s US Road Show included three competitions held in different states in the US, where a lean DTCC team came out of victorious. They came home teeming with medals. (MCB)
