Talk back: Canoy’s conviction
By Engr. Antonio C. Canoy

THIS is a reaction to a news story about the decision of Judge Meinrado Paredes to convict a certain Antonio C. Dangoy (Sun.Star Cebu, Feb. 5, 2007). The promulgation was made on Jan. 30, 2007 and only the dispositive portion was read.

In the second paragraph of said decision, Paredes contradicted Court record.

The decision said thus, “The accused filed a Second Motion for Reconsideration on Jan. 24, 2000.” But Court record speaks to the contrary, to wit: “Accused motion is impressed with merit. Wherefore, in view of the foregoing, the hearing in the instant case is hereby ordered suspended…So ordered, Cebu City, Philippines, April 12, 2000.”

I pray upon your office to call on Judge Paredes to reconcile this point.
