CCSC head Sylvan “Jack” Jakosalem, who has long been trying to iron out a long drawn Arafura misunderstanding, had received a confirmation from PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez that they will be waiting for Cebu’s list.
“I called him up and he said that while it was going to be harder, he will still be waiting for us to submit our lineup,” said Jakosalem.
The arrangement would seem a special one after PSC declined some other groups, who sent in their roster past the deadline.
Jakosalem said they have been very keen on sending a team but with a lot of changes going on, they are no longer 100 percent sure they could send a team.
“We first wanted to send our gold medalists in the last Arafura but they are with GCSOC now, then we wanted to send boxers and we learned that our boxers are not good enough yet, so na-soften mi,” he said.
Waiting
Dr. Danilo Villadolid of the Department of Education and regional point person of the Philippine Sports Commission was tasked by CCSC to come up with a list of athletes.
“I on my part have been waiting for them to tell me which events they will be joining so that I could scout from coaches for possible entries,” Villadolid said.
While he welcomes the news that the PSC will still wait for CCSC’s list, Villadolid said that in one of the weekly meetings, the CCSC has set a deadline for itself.
“I think it is in the minutes of the meeting that we need to come up with the list this month. Otherwise, there would be little chance to actually send a team,” he said.
CCSC officials said Villadolid failed to come up with a list because he has been busy with other tasks like the recent regional meets.
With time running out, CCSC will eventually end up not sending a team at all.
Busy
Jakosalem said the list will definitely be completed in next week’s meeting. However, a check at the calendar will tell that it is the Holy Week.
Furthermore, Villadolid said he will once more be busy. Right now he is in the thick of things preparing for two big national meets slated mid-April.
“Sige lang, dili nalang ko muhulat sa sunod meeting, ako nalang mo-contact nila diretso,” he said.
Jakosalem admitted that their participation is now shaky. “If apeke, dili nalang gyud, but we will still try our best to come up with a delegation,” he said. (MCB)
