Citom man shot dead, execution style

AN enforcer of the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) was shot about 7 a.m. yesterday in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City.

The 38-year-old traffic enforcer was identified as Romeo Muñez. He died on the spot after an unknown man shot him in the back of his head.

At the crime scene, investigators found an empty shell that suggested that the gunman used a .45 pistol.

Witnesses said the man was riding a red Aura motorbike. He was also wearing a maroon polo shirt and a pair of maong pants when he committed the crime.

The suspect is said to be 5’5” tall, has a slim stature, brown complexion, and short dark hair.

The initial investigation suggested that the crime was work-related.

Muñez is a member of the Task Force Franchise, which requires him to call the attention of drivers who go against traffic rules and to impound their vehicles.

Police investigators suspect that Muñez’s death has something to do with his catching drivers of 21-B jeepneys who illegally enter Cebu City.

PO2 Dante Wenceslao of Police Station 5 in Mandaue City said they have spoken with Muñez’s wife.

“We’re giving her time, but we’re going to talk to her again soon,” Wenceslao said in Cebuano.

The police force is continuing work on Muñez’s case. They are also coordinating with the Scene of the Crime Operations Team in the investigation. (Ace Jayssan A. Tapulado, STC Media Comm Intern)
