Tuesday, April 03, 2007 Pacquiao boosts training regimen
MANNY Pacquiao has doubled up on his training and is now ready to fly to San Antonio Texas, where he is going to meet the unbeaten Mexican challenger Jorge Solis for the WBC International Super-featherweight title on April 14 (April 15 RP time) at the Alamodome.
Pacquiao must have taken the advise of Erik Morales too seriously, as he completed a total of 100 rounds of sparring with different partners last Friday at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles. The Filipino boxer is also looking to complete a total of 120 rounds before he winds up his training in San Antonio.
Pacquiao and Solis are going to make a series of pre-fight promotions in San Antonio before the fight this week.
The referee scheduled to officiate the fight is Vic Drakulich, the same official who was in charge of the Pacquiao-Morales third encounter last November at the Thomas and Mack Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The judges assigned to the fight are Larry O’Connell, Gale Van Hoy and Oren Shellen-berger.
In footages taken by GMA 7 at Pacquiao’s training camp in Los Angeles, the General Santos fighter took extra rounds at the heavy bag, double bags, shadow boxed extra minutes and ran longer stretch than his usual load.
According to Justine Fortune, who is currently in charge of Pacquiao’s training while Freddie Roach is still in Puerto Rico to train Oscar De La Hoya, Pacquiao weighed 137 pounds and will get no problem making the 130-pound limit a day before the fight. (RCM)
