Don Howard of the CPILS foreign teacher group said the school’s students, faculty and staff “generously” contributed for the victims.
The CPILS management, along with its partner school in Canada, also donated 150 sacks of rice.
An advance team distributed 800 rice coupons to the families. The distribution took about five hours and the victims received 10 kilos of rice each.
“As we prepared to depart, a teenager, who had been helping us all afternoon, approached me with his coupon. He had waited until everyone else had received rice before he asked for his. As it turned out, it was his 16th birthday, but we were the ones who received gifts from him—his energy, effort, smile and simplicity. I won’t soon forget him,” Howard said.
Meanwhile, the CCCI gathered donations from its member-companies and turned them over to the Mandaue City Social Welfare Services.
