Wednesday, April 04, 2007 Natividad rules Titay’s chess tilt
RICHARD Natividad is the chess king after the smoke cleared in seven rounds, piling up six points in the Open division of the Titay’s Cup Open Chess at the Panphil Frasco Memorial Sports Center in Liloan.
Natividad got a trophy and P3,000 cash for his victory.
Natividad, playing for safety, halved his final game assignment with Reynaldo Flores to share the lead with six points together with Francisco Abugho and Joel Pacuribot.
Natividad got the crown with a higher tie-break of 22 points.
Abugho, with 19.5 points, landed in second place, while Pacuribot, with 19 points, got the third spot. Abugho trampled Rodrigo Ababat, while Pacuribot lambasted Carlos Moreno III in their final matches.
Meanwhile, Allan Salientes claimed the title in the Liloan division with a perfect five points in five rounds. Salientes defeated Danny Lopez in his final game. Second place went to Leodegario Cuadra, Danny Lopez settled for third spot and Frederick Hamak Jr. got fourth place.
In the Kiddies division, Shawn Patrick Osorno was awarded the top spot with five points after five rounds of play. Osorno outplayed Yves Fiel in his last match encounter. Fiel settled for second place, while Nikki Sabiquil got third place and Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano took fourth place.
Gerardo “Dodong Gamay” Frasco Jr., proprietor and general manager of Titay’s Rosquillos, sponsored the chess tilt that was part of the 100-yearr anniversary celebration of Titay’s Liloan Rosquillos. (JGC)
