71 UC athletes competing in Prisaa, Palaro get allowance

THE University of Cebu will be doling out close to half a million pesos as assistance to its athletes who are competing in two national sporting meets this April.

UC athletes will take part in the Private Schools Athletic Foundation Inc (Prisaa) on April 15-21 in Ilo-Ilo City and in the Department of Education Palarong Pambansa on April 22-29 in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.

Of the budget, P391,128 will go to the 33 athletes and 15 coaches bound for Iloilo, while the P73,000 goes to the 38 athletes competing in the Palaro.

The game allowance will cover eight days, pegged at P150 per day for the athletes and P200 per day for the coaches.

Also covered in the budget is the contingency fund, which will be used for medicines, food, mineral water and other emergency needs.

The allowance came at a perfect time, as it will give extra security for athletes and will have spare cash to use when the need arises.

During the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVRAA) meet in Dumaguete City, a number of athletes from the Cebu City delegation went hungry after either shortage of food prepared or late delivery.

For the Palaro, the DepEd will be providing for the athletes’ uniforms, boat fare, accommodation and food.

UC athletes will be competing in arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, swimming and table tennis. The winners during the CVRAA are the athletes representing the region in the Palaro.

The delegation will leave for Prisaa on April 12 and some will no longer go back to Cebu but will go directly to Koronadal for the Palaro. (MCB)
