Thursday, April 05, 2007 Express snaps Alaska’s win streak
THE Air21 Express gained a share of the second spot yesterday after halting the Alaska Aces’ winning streak with a huge 116-104 victory in the 2007 Talk N Text PBA Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.
Coming into the game with overflowing confidence due to a terrific import in Rosell Ellis and the good games of Willie Miller, Alaska coach Tim Cone and the rest of his wards never knew what hit them as the Express manhandled the Aces by breaking the game wide open as early as in the third canto.
Winnie Arboleda came out as the biggest factor for the Express’ victory as he fired a total of 16 markers, including four three-point bombs all scored in the pivotal third canto, and issued eight assists to be named Best Player of the Game.
Gary David was also his usual explosive self as he banged in 27 points on top of four rebounds and one assist, while Mark Clemence Telan added 12 markers, six caroms and one block shot.
The Express’ win was their fifth in seven games and tied them at second alongside the Aces and the Barangay Ginebra Kings, who also both lug 5-2 win-loss slates each. (JSV)
