TOP PLAYERS. Topalov would have retained his No.1 status had Fide excluded the Morelia /Linares tournament. However, a protest from the Indian Federation changed all that and now Anand becomes the sixth man since the 70s—after Fischer, Karpov, Kasparov, Kramnik and Topalov—to occupy the No.1 position and the first Asian to do so. He won Linares, while Topalov tied for last with Leko.
Topalov is tied with Kramnik at second, while Morozevich is at a career high fourth with Aronian pushed down to fifth followed by Mamedyarov at sixth.
TOP 10. 1.) Anand (37, 2782) 2.Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria, 31, 2772) 3.) Kramnik (31, 2772) 4. Morozevich (29, 2762) 5.) Aronian (24, 2759) 6.) Shakriyaz Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan, 21, 2757) 7.) Radjabov (20, 2747) 8.) Leko (27, 2738) 9.) Svidler (30, 2736) 10.) Michael Adams (England, 35, 2734.)
