City brings back 19th century era

CEBU City is hosting until this month Fundacion Santiago’s 9th traveling exhibition, Lines Across Time.

The three-module presentation on the built environment of 19th century Philippines boasts of architectural plans and photographs from the Archivo Historico Militar, the Archivo General de Indias, the Servicio Historico Militar and other Spanish archival institutions where primary materials were sourced by Madrid-based Fundacion Mapfre.

A learning kit created by Fundacion Santiago and the University of the Philippines’ College of Architecture is among the multimedia offerings guaranteed to engage teachers, students, architects, urban planners and heritage enthusiasts.

The abundant graphic documentation of the legacy left by Spain’s military and civil engineers will visit Casa Gorordo, a classic example of the typical balay na tisa in the late 19th century.

Elite district

It is among the three remaining Spanish colonial era houses in the Parian district of Cebu City. This once elite district was the enclave of the city’s first families.

The exhibition is a joint effort of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (Rafi) and Senator Edgardo Angara.

Museum hours are from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For booking visits, one may call 255-5630.
