Quisumbing pledges investor confidence

DISAPPOINTMENT that some programs approved by the Provincial Board (PB) have been blocked for “political reasons” is one of the reasons PB Member Gabriel Luis Quisumbing cited for his congressional bid.

Speaking at yesterday’s 888 Media Forum at Marco Polo Plaza Hotel, Quisumbing said that reelectionist Rep. Nerissa Soon-Ruiz (Cebu, sixth district) failed to boost investors’ confidence.

“My entrance into politics is purely in the spirit of public service. So, my family and I thought that it would be best for me to run for Congress, because these plans and programs that we had for the approval of the Provincial Board would have a better chance of being realized in the House of Representatives,” said Quisumbing, who is running in his second election after joining the PB three years ago at age 24.

Quisumbing is counting on the support of reelectionist Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Arturo Radaza, Consolacion Mayor Avelino Gungob Jr., Mandaue City mayoral aspirant Jonas Cortes and Cordova mayoral candidate Danilo Sinugbuhan.

“In the sixth district which is the industrial hub of Cebu Province, it would be unfortunate if the investors’ confidence would sink because of negative publicity about corruption in government,” Quisumbing said.

He added that Soon-Ruiz has been a congresswoman for four terms, but most of her projects focus on “political effects rather than something that could truly be beneficial to the people.”

Apart from the reelectionist Soon-Ruiz, former sixth district congressman and ex-Cebu governor Vicente de la Serna is also running for the district’s seat in the House of Representatives. (EOB)
