Sally Mae opens campaign with win in TruFlex national tennis tourney

SALLY Mae Siso sailed through her first assignment in the Truflex Junior Tennis tournament yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Courts.

Siso entered the second round of the Girls 16-and-Under division after blowing out Jaine Contemprato, 6-0, 6-0.

The stalwart from University of San Carlos South Campus arranged a second-round outing against JV Custodio with her victory.

Siso, though, is favored to win over Custodio as the Cebuana already trounced the latter in straight sets the last time they faced each other during the World Cup qualifiers.

The 13-year-old Siso, who enjoyed a bye in the first round of the Girls 14-Under division, will face either Pia Tamayo or Trenna Guirrez as her second round opponent.

Tamayo and Guirrez were still going against each other for a slot to the second round yesterday.

Jessica Lagman, on the other hand, was virtually uncontested in her entry to the next round of the Girls 16-Under class after her opponent, Cristabel Paulino, failed to show up. Lagman will be pitting skills with Samantha Coyoiuto in the second round today.

Meanwhile, the other Cebuanos who also enjoyed first-round byes will be plunging into action today.

The older Siso, Bernardine “Niño,” the top-ranked player in the Boys 14-Under division will be taking on Neil Paez in the second round, while Jacob Lagman of St. Benedict Learning Center is scheduled to play in two games today against Mark Concepcion in the Boys 12-Under where he is the top player, and against Gio Gatdula in the Boys 14-Under division.

Vince Mark Tabotabo of Tuburan, on the other hand, is also set to play two matches—in the 10-Under Unisex, where he is seeded second, and the Boys 12-Under. (MCB )
