Siso secures 2 finals seats

CEBU City’s fastest rising junior tennis star, Sally Mae Siso continued showing her powerful form as she put herself on the brink of two championship titles yesterday in the Truflex Tennis Tournament at the Rizal Memorial tennis courts in Manila.

Sally Mae registered separate wins in two age divisions to book herself a finals ticket in the Girls 14 and 16-Under categories, even as her fellow Cebuanos, Jacob Lagman and Sally Mae’s older brother, Bernadine “Niño”, also advanced to the next round in their respective groups.

Lagman moved to the semifinal rounds in both the Boys 12 and 14-Under divisions, while Niño barged into the semis of the Boys 14-Under division.

The University of San Carlos South Campus pride Sally Mae, who will be competing in New Delhi, India in the World Junior Cup, broke into the final round of the Girls 16-Under after tallying a huge 6-1, 6-0 upset over topseed Sara Jane Lim.

Sally Mae, who is unseeded in the Girls 16-Under, will be waiting in the final round for the winner of the Martina Junica Guba-Regina Santiago semifinals battle.

In the 14-Under division, where she is the fourth-ranked player in the country, Sally Mae easily disposed of JV Custodio, 6-2, 6-1, to secure her second finals slot in one day.

She will be facing either Jasmine Tan Ho or Shanine Olivarez in the championship round.
Lagman, for his part, defeated John Mavrick Ribaya, 6-0, 6-0, in the Boys 14-Under quarterfinals to book a semis outing against Kyle Cordero.

The second win of the St. Benedict Learning Center stalwart Lagman, came in the Boys 12-Under quarterfinals, where he trounced Jurence Mendoza.

Lagman will be having a rematch with Ribaya but this time in the Boys 12-Under category semis.

The India World Junior Cup Boys competition-bound, Niño, on the other hand, defeated Angelo Rivero, 6-3, 6-2, to arrange a semis match against Arjohn dela Cruz in the Boys 14-Under. (MCB)
