Banco de Oro tops President’s Cup elimination

THE defending champion Banco de Oro /Equitable PCI Bank’s (BDO/EPCI) opened its title defense of the Cebu Bankers Club President’s Cup on a positive note, as it topped the elimination round at the Gaisano Bowlingplex yesterday.

The annual bankers bowling tilt attracted 12 teams, but only BDO/EPCI and seven other top teams advanced to the final round on April 21 at 1 p.m.

BDO/EPCI, which finished yesterday’s three-game series with 2,356 pinfalls, leaned on the prowess of top keglers Noel Tanyu and Analily Lao.

The two were named top scorers in a single game in the men’s and women’s division, respectively.

Tanyu scored 212 pinfalls in one game, while Lao had 247, besting out the other players in the distaff side.

BDO/EPCI showed signs of dominance early, as the team finished with 799 pinfalls in Game 1, while all the other teams were just averaging about 650 pinfalls.

It then registered 770 and 787 in the next three games to finish the qualifying round on top of the heap.

Allied Banking Corporation ranked second with 2,195, followed by Bank of the Philippine Islands with 2,102.

The other qualifiers are the Philippine National Bank, Land Bank, United Coconut Planters Bank, BDO/EPCI Team 2, and Unionbank. (MCB)
