Sunday, April 15, 2007 Corporate sponsors pour support for volleyball tilt
THE first M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Open Volleyball Tournament set the end of this month received a windfall of support from corporate sponsors.
Richmedia Digital Ads of corporate mogul Jack Huang, Virginia Foods Inc.’s El Rancho through president Felix Tiukinhoy, GDS Security Services of Ben Sun, Kima Glass of Willy Kima, Dewfoam of Dewey Choachuy, Jr., and Lorenz ‘Chao’ Sy of La Fortuna Hotel promised to help the event.
To be staged at the University of San Carlos (USC) gym, the competition is geared at giving exposure to volleyball enthusiasts, most especially the school-based squads.
“Through the cooperation of corporate sponsors, we will not only broaden our thrust to help develop sports, but also empower their respective companies with an effective promotional and marketing arm,” said M. Lhuillier Sports Development Foundation (MLSDF) executive director Eddie B. Ybańez.
Sixteen teams—eight per division—will battle for the inaugural title.
Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc.’s defending men’s champion USC and women’s champion University of San Jose-Recoletos lead the cast of competing teams in the two-month tilt.
The other school-based teams include the University of the Visayas, University of Cebu, University of Southern Philippines Foundation and Southwestern University.
Other teams are the Carcar and Liloan Selection, Hiroshi All-Stars and the MLSDF Selection.
The contest follows a single-round robin format for both divisions, with the top two teams advancing to the crossover semifinals.
The winners will then slug it out for the championship.
