WE haven’t heard or read anything about the annual Kadaugan sa Maktan, considering that April 27 is fast approaching. Is the current political situation in Lapulapu city hampering preparations for the yearly observance?
While the city has an acting mayor with the six-month suspension of the incumbent one, it is our wish that the current leadership will continue the traditional activity by mobilizing all those involved in the annual reenactment of the April 27, 1521 bloody encounter between Lapulapu and Magellan on the shores of Mactan.
Politics should not stand in the way as far as Kadaugan sa Maktan is concerned. I am confident, however, that acting Mayor Norma Patalinghug is behind this project despite the fact that the Kadaugan sa Maktan working committee is peopled by those belonging to the opposing camp. All of them should unite and cooperate for the sake of this commendable cultural, historical and tourism attraction.
EVERYTHING is set for the free komiks writing seminar that topnotch film director Carlo J. Caparas will conduct next week. It will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2 to 5 p.m., at the old session hall of the Cebu Provincial Capitol. Even the snacks and materials are free of charge. Furthermore, Direk Carlo and his wife Donna are setting aside cash prizes (P40,000, P30,000 and P20,000) for the top three winning komiks stories in a competition that they are holding on a separate date. The couple is doing Komiks Karavan as their humble way of promoting the komiks industry nationwide.

SOUTHWINGS band guitarist Joe Corals is now a lawyer. He passed the 2006 bar examinations, but I’m sure that his lawyering will not hamper his performances with the band. IS it true that even the friends of this self-proclaimed radio commentator are one in saying that his wife’s running in the May 14 elections is simply for the fund of it?
