THE political machineries of the Durano clan’s Bakud and Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia’s One Cebu are against him, yet this has not prevented 26-year-old Vincent “Duke” Frasco from running as independent to challenge his grandaunt, reelectionist Liloan Mayor Maria Sevilla.
Frasco is the second youngest candidate for mayor in Cebu, next to Daanbantayan’s Sun Shimura, the 24-year-old son of Mayor Ma. Luisa Loot.
Efforts by the Duranos to prevent a clash between Sevilla and Frasco had failed and now, the neophyte mayoral candidate has on his side all of 14 barangay captains in Liloan and one council member, his running mate.
Frasco disclosed that many urged him to run for mayor in 2004 but he declined because of his age and lack of experience.
Three years later, Frasco, son of deceased Liloan mayor Panphil Frasco, Sevilla’s nephew, thinks he is ready.
“We value family so I would like to maintain good relations with my grandaunt and avoid mudslinging. The campaign is just 45 days, the election is just one day...But I believe I am the better person for the job,” Frasco said in an interview during a house-to-house campaign.
He promises to focus on education by giving scholarships and to improve the services of its Municipal Health Office, which charges fees for the use of its ambulance. Frasco’s family owns Titay’s Rosquillos and Delicacies, Inc. (JPM)
