Tuesday, April 17, 2007 Speak out: Banning the gun By Jesus J. dela Gente Pakigne, Minganilla, Cebu
THE gun ban has been in effect since the start of the election period. Yet, we still read in the local and national papers about hapless civilians falling victims to the guns of unknown assailants. Prominent people and candidates are not immune to the power of the firearm. Criminals nowadays are no longer afraid to pull a robbery in broad daylight in populated areas.
Authorities should set up checkpoints, the same ones we imposed during the Asean summit last January, so they can apprehend criminals or gun-carriers.
I am an ardent believer of Mr. Nady Pacheco’s “Gunless Society” whatever the “Have Guns” personalities attested. We lost many promising and worthy personalities with the indiscriminate and/or motivated usage of this gun.
Worthy to be include also in this ban are bladed weapons.
