Sizing up men
By Zosimo T. Literatus, R.M.T.
Breakthroughs

“GREAT men,” wrote Max Beerbohm in his book, And Even Now, “are but life-sized. Most of them, indeed, are rather short.”

Assuming race as a constant, the same may also be true with penile size. It is a serious concern to many males to the extent that they make it a basis of their self-confidence in his relationships with women. But that’s the male perspective.

A woman’s experience may tell differently. That’s on top of the fact that in the male mind, “size” means length instead of width.

In a study by Russell Eisenman of the Department of Psychology at the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas, USA, women equate sexual satisfaction with penis thickness than penis length.

In the study, 50 sexually active female undergraduates were interviewed in person or in the telephone. The question was “In having sex, which feels better, length of penis or width of penis?” with half the cases the word “thickness” was used before the word “length.”

Results published in BMC Women’s health (2001) show that 45 of the 50 women interviewed have reported that width felt better with only five that answered otherwise. No female reported that they could not tell any difference; although some clarified that sex in a relationship was better than sex without commitment.

The study, however, has no way of knowing if the volunteers reported their psychological preference and not their true physiological preference. A direct physiological test on sexual satisfaction may or may not show the same thing. However, in the absence of the latter, the present study is something of interest.

“Penis width may be important,” explained Eisenman, “due to a penis thick at the base providing greater clitoral stimulation...during sexual intercourse.”

John Dewey, in his book, Psychology, hinted: “Hunger and satisfaction are the two most intense states of consciousness, and they are very intimately connected.” Needless to say, hunger for intimacy is of more of an influence on a woman’s sexual satisfaction. It is perhaps better for men to preoccupy themselves in creating such hunger than in worrying about their penis size.
