Wednesday, April 18, 2007 Owner eyes Taulava for Seag team
MANILA - Harbour Center team owner Mikee Romero yesterday said he is eyeing Asi Taulava and Yancy de Ocampo for the national team which will see action in the 24th Southeast Asian Games (Seag) in December in Thailand.
Romero said after seeing how Malaysia and Indonesia played in the recently concluded Southeast Asian Basketball Association (Seaba) Champions Cup in Indonesia, he is leaving no stone unturned to equip the RP national squad with the best tall players to insure a successful campaign.
“Asi Taulava and Yancy de Ocampo are the players that we are eyeing to be included in the team. Our loss to Indonesia during the elimination round of the Seaba last week is a wake-up call for us. We should not take for granted other teams in the region now,” said Romero in yesterday’s weekly PSA Forum.
He said the RP team, which has dominated the SEA Games, should be prepared for at least six months and not just one month to be able to defend the title.
“For the SEA Games, we have to prepare long especially because we have been absent in the regional games for two years and we were not able to follow their progress,” Romero said. (FCC)
