ILOILO City - Prisaa 7 solidified its hold of the second spot in the overall medal count after plucking seven golds from lawn tennis, swimming and athletics here in the 2007 Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) National Games at the Iloilo City Sports Complex.

Host Prisaa 6, for its part, continued to distance itself from the rest of the pack after improving its gold medal haul to 30.

The Central Visayas delegation improved its medal tally to 11 gold, 20 silver and 12 bronze medals to tail Prisaa 6, which now has a medal count of 30-17-13.

Prisaa 11, on the other hand, stayed within striking distance of Prisaa 7 as it improved its tally to 7-2-18 at the end of the third day.

Giving out the gold medal for Prisaa 7 in swimming is the men’s 4x50-meter freestyle relay team composed of University of San Carlos’ Andrei Yosef Ynclino and France Baguio and Dumaguete City’s Ryan Ramacho and Ian Russiana at the Iloilo City Sports Complex Aquatic Center.

The team finished the event in 1:49.83.

The other gold for Prisaa 7 came from the women’s lawn tennis team, which demolished host Prisaa 6, 2-0, over at the La Paz tennis courts.

Benebeth Patindol opened the gold- snaring campaign with a thrilling 8-7 (7-2) victory over her counterpart in the first singles event.

USC’s Floriza Alesna and Jane Rachel Idos completed the sweep as they demolished their foes in the doubles event, 8-4.

Also winning the gold for Prisaa 7 is University of Cebu’s Angelica Lado, who cruised off to a top performance in the women’s shot put event.

Swimming

Prisaa 7 also plucked two silvers in swimming, courtesy of Katrina Rubi in the women’s 100m butterfly and the women’s 4x50 freestyle relay team.

The men’s lawn tennis team also won the silver after losing to Prisaa 11 in the championship round.

Among those who brought the bronze in swimming for Central Visayas were Maribeth Ababon (women’s 100m freestyle), Hywell Ramacho (men’s 50m backstroke), Aimie Cobrador (women’s 50m backstroke and 200m backstroke) and Gwencent Canada (women’s 200m backstroke).

In athletics, among those who won medals for Prisaa 7 were Anselmo Esgana Jr., who bagged the silver in the men’s high jump with a leap of 1.80 meters and Anthony Santillan, who snared the bronze in the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 11.5 seconds.

TEAM EVENTS

In table tennis, Prisaa 7 continued its winning ways at SM City Iloilo after demolishing Prisaa 12, 2-0.

UC’s Michael Motel ignited the Central Visayas ’ victory in table tennis with a thrilling 11-9, 8-11, 11-9 win over his rival, while Jay Impuesto and Jonathan Jacalan blasted their Region 12 foes with a 11-8, 11-6 victory to give Prisaa 7 its second straight win.

In men’s volleyball, the University of San Carlos, University of San Jose Recoletos and University of the Visayas-powered Prisaa 7 romped off to two victories in a single day after losing a match the other day.

The Cebuanos’ first victims at the Iloilo Doctors’ gym were the Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), 25-9, 25-13, 14-25 and 25-14. They then defeated Prisaa 11 (Davao), 25-17, 25-17 and 25-18.

The Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras-powered sepak takraw team also logged in their second straight win after blasting Prisaa 10, 2-0, at the Central Philippines University in Jaro.

SWU’s Arnold Niedo, Jessel Yaun and Joseph Rey Castro logged in a 21-7, 21-10 victory in the first regu event, while UV’s Kent John Joaquin and SWU’s Roymie Camacho and Ludivico Taleon completed Prisaa 7’s sweep with a 21-9 21-11 victory in the second regu.

Also rolling off to their second victory is the men’s basketball team of coach Jay Ramirez, who choked the Region 4A cagers, 98-83, at the University of San Agustin gymnasium.

Niño Ramirez again starred for the USC Warriors, BIT and HNU-powered Prisaa-7 quintet as he logged in 16 markers including three three-point bombs. (JSV)
