Saturday, April 21, 2007 Go: Pumpin’ Summer By Charlene Go LaMyerda
HOLY WEEK Week would probably be my favorite holiday of the year, since personally I find that it is more meaningful than Christmas itself. For believers of the Christian faith, we commemorate the occasion of having received our redemption through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Many celebrate in different ways, some go though the act of penitence as how Jesus suffered, while some vow to sacrifice something that they indulge in and enjoy the three day non-working holiday by spending time with family and friends.
For the last 4 years, I have spent my Holy Week in Sta. Fe, Bantayan Island.
Every year, thousands of people visit the paradise island for a little rest and relaxation. This is one place where week-long beach parties take place and eating pork during Santa Semana seems to be no big deal. One of my favorite spots on the island is Budyong Beach Resort where Pump’ n Summer went on. For the past few years, Budyong has been an ideal party place during holy week. This year Pump took the club scene to Bantayan with acoustic acts from Cebuano bands. People danced to the beats of local drumbeaters act, Lupon Anduyo and party goers went wild as one of the hottest dj’s in Cebu, DJ Marlon Orellano spun the mixes.
Through the years, celebrating and having fun during Holy Week has always been an issue, especially with the Philippines being predominantly Christian.
I reckon there is no reason for Christians to intentionally hurt themselves to ask for forgiveness when our salvation is what Holy Week is all about–but to each their own. It all boils down to one thing: reflecting and being thankful for the life that Jesus Christ has given us.
Pre-holy week partying, Shangri-la’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa cooked up another Full Moon Festival, this time at their enchanting beachfront with the perfect mix of DJ Elmer Dado together with Grupo Tribale.
Not only did I dance the night away, but I also learned how to zip thanks to Planet Zips who not only entertained guests with their poy skills but patiently taught those who were interested to learn. Speaking of being interested to learn the art, as I chatted with the crew of Planet Zips, they mentioned that they will be holding classes here in Cebu starting this May 2007.
Now, there’s something to watch out for!
