Thursday, April 26, 2007 Niño Siso advances in Metro tennis tilt
BERNARDINE Niño Siso kept his title hope alive after being kicked out of the Boys 16-Under as he barged into the quarterfinal round of the 14-Under class of the Metro Age Group tennis tournament at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.
Siso, who had a decent performance in the World Junior Championships in New Delhi, India, bested two rivals yesterday to march into the 14-Under’s fourth round.
He advanced into the round of eight after defeating Harry Cruz, 6-2, 6-0, before trampling Mark Verdadero, 6-0, 6-0, in his second game and gain entrance into the quarterfinals.
The Boys 14-Under division third-ranked player, Siso is set to meet the winner between the Enrique Ferrer-Rafael Squilliantini match of the Metro Age Group, which is acknowledged as one of the very few tournaments in the country rated Group 1 by the Philippine Tennis Association.
The tourney stakes higher points needed to determine the netters’ rankings in the national level compared to other tilts. (MCB)
