Thursday, May 03, 2007 Lactea downs Wilkris, 72-61, to snare crown
LACTEA Energy Drink capped its campaign in the Punta Princesa Basketball Association-Guardo Cup 2007 basketball tournament with a flourish as it registered a 72-61 come-from-behind victory over Wilkris Appliance Center over the weekend to snare the championship title in the 30-Above division.
The Lactea five of lawyer Raul Padilla used a viselike defense to paralyze Wilkris’ shooters in the final canto to crawl back into the game after trailing the latter in the first three periods of the game.
The Appliance Makers started the game strong as it dictated the tempo of the game in the opening half and continued to hold Lactea at bay until the third canto behind the effective offensive strikes of Boboy Rosito, Edwin Dinglasa, Petoy Mata and Lando Almojallas.
But Wilkris unraveled at the seams in the final period when Lactea, with Tito Quiros and Yok Alesna at the forefront of its defensive stance, clamped down on Wilkris’ offense.
James Lloyd Noel spearheaded the Lactea quintet as he tallied 20 markers, while playing coach Jun Felicitas and pointguard Lito Navarro added 19 and 17 points, respectively.
Noel made it a double celebration after the win as he snagged the coveted MVP plum as well as making it into the Mythical 5 selection alongside his teammates, Navarro and Felicitas, Rosito and Alfred Lim.
Navarro, for his part, took home the 3-Point King title, while Felicitas was hailed Rookie of the Year and Best Coach awardee. (JSV)
