Cebuano Architects’ fun summer

SUMMER is when campus denizens take a breather and beaches move up as the most-sought-after destination. For architects all over the country, summer is also the time for a big yearly synod in the nation’s capital.

This year, more than 50 Cebuano architects (from the four active chapters here, namely, Cebu, Lapu Lapu, Rajah Humabon and Sugbu) attended the 33rd United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) National Convention held at the World Trade Center and the Manila Hotel. The Convention theme was The Varying State of Philippine Architecture: Empowering the Filipino Architects’ First Decade of the Third Millenium. The Bisdaks eagerly took part in the various functions, continuing education programs on empowering the local practice, tours at the National Museum and The Fort, product exhibits and the much-awaited elections of their National Officers during the three-day meet.

At the Appreciation Night, Cebu Chapter received an Achievement Award for being the first UAP Chapter in the country while Rajah Humabon and Sugbu Chapters were named finalists for Most Outstanding Chapter for FY 2006-2007 in the Vis-Min area.

Of course, aside from the side trips to nearby Mall of Asia, Blue Wave, Glorietta and Greenhills, the Cebuano architects are now back in their hometown armed with renewed confidence on what they could contribute to local society through their profession. Truly, summer for them was fun and fruitful.
