Go: Summer Fever
By Charlene Go
LaMyerda

SUMMER has always been my favorite time of the year.

Many of us remember summertime as taking two months off from school, sleeping late, waking up late the next day and bumming around all day at home or at the mall. It is that one time of the year where many students enjoy their freedom from school responsibilities.

Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007

Summer break was always a new experience, some go through summer class, maybe even summer workshops, and some go through exciting summer flings, but my favorite would be the summer parties. Weekend or weekday, every night is a party!

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been hitting one of the newest shopping and dining destinations in Cebu. It has only been open a couple of months and already it has become a favorite of many. Paseo, which is situated on F. Cabahug Street, Mabolo is Cebu’s first night market, food and entertainment center.

Don’t be deceived by its unpretentious exterior, inside you will find a number of bazaar stalls open from 2 p.m.-12 mn for the insomniac shop-a-holics. It has over 30 food and beverage outlets positioned side by side with a 2,000 person capacity mutual seating area (al fresco style) and a large covered stage where acoustic sessions are held every Tuesday and Wednesday during dinnertime and where a DJ spins the mixes every evening.

And speaking of DJ’s spinning the mixes, we had Steak Productions NY resident DJ Getlive together with MC Pauly Mack (who won the Philippine Hip Hop Awards 2007 MC of the Year) in Cebu over the weekend on their P.I. Force Tour. DJ Getlive, spun a mix of hop hop, r n’ b and reggae at the Paseo Mall and Club VUDU.

And while the party was happening at those places, my friends and I decided to grab a bite at a small hole-in-the-wall establishment along Escario St. that boasts (as it self-proclaims on their marquee) serving native hot cocoa with delicious kakanins (native rice delicacies) in a cozy setting and ambient music from local acoustic band, Brown Sugar. The establishment could have even been cozier if they had a supply of food (after all, they are in the food business) and attention to the customer. Unfortunately, that was something they lacked… being too occupied “cooking” for guests… or rather catching up with a friend.
