Print business sees 40% revenues from poll campaign materials

THE upcoming elections has helped boost the revenues of players in the local printing industry.

Caroline Porras, Mack-mayer Printers chief executive officer, said the increase in the demand for banners, posters and flyers during the election season is seen to account for 40 percent of the company’s revenues this year.

Mackmayer Printers, an affiliate of Mackmayer Media Corp., is a print management company offering a mix of diverse printing services like offset and digital printing.

Although television has now become a popular medium to promote candidates, she said print materials are always an effective means for candidates to campaign to the masses.

“It’s also cost-effective,” Porras said.

But even before the election period, Porras said the print industry already showed potentials for growth that they now have many competitors.

Average growth

Porras said the company’s revenues grew at an average of five percent every year.

“There’s always room for more players but one has to find its own advantage in order to survive,” she said.

After it invested in state-of-the-art printers to create quality output, the company can now produce complicated collaterals.

Mackmayers’ niche, Porras said, is its Direct Printing capability that allows them to print directly on a piece of wood.

“Traditionally, you print it on a sticker and post them on wood, but we have redefined that,” she said.

In an interview with Sun.Star Cebu, Porras said the company wants to penetrate the international market “indirectly” by tapping more exporters as customers.

Export industry players, like those involved in furniture, fashion accessories, gifts, toys and housewares, garments, among others, who are in need of quality, high-end advertising and marketing materials are among Mackmayer’s target pool of client-base.

Expand

“Right now, we don’t have much of them yet but our goal is to expand (with) exporters as our clients,” she said.

Its current clients include hotels, manufacturers, academic institutions, telecommunication firms, food, service, trading establishments, and other related industries.

Mackmayer, which was established in 2002, has a main office inside its 1,200-square-meter property at North Road, Tabok, Mandaue City, while its sales office is located in Cagayan de Oro City.

Bullish over the country’s print industry, Porras revealed plans to open two branches within the Visayas and Mindanao this year.

She hopes to open four additional branches in 2008. (MMM)
