Espina: A tribute to Felisa
By Mila C. Espina
In my diary

FELISA Chiongbian, that ‘unsinkable’ Zontian, celebrated her 85th birthday with a lot of animo and joy! What zest!

The Zontians look up to her as the most committed and sincere woman of strength with so much passion for the less
privileged. An icon for all seasons!

Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007

I am Felisa’s no. 1 admirer.

During my term as Zontian president in 1986, she chaired our biggest fund raising project, a fashion show called ‘Glamour and Glitz’ to be able to construct the first chapel and care center in Ermita. Through the years she never tired of helping Zonta 1’s civic projects. Do you know that every Christmas, and during her birthday, she shares her blessings with groups, like Zonta 1, Philippines Foundation, Inc. and so many others? These checks she sends give us an extra mile to implement our programs.

In 2000, the Philippines Foundation conferred on Felisa, the prestigious Perlas Award as the valuable Filipino for her zealous industry as an entrepreneur devotion as a mother and leadership in manifold socio-civic clues.

Dear Felisa’s thoughtfulness is beyond words. She never, never forgets the birthdays of her closest friends. I get my earliest greetings every July 16, a mass card and lovely orchids. Once she gave me a religious book which I read every Lenten season. Felisa is so easy to love!

I listened to her impromptu speech during her birthday bash recently at Marco Polo! Wow! Her words came out warmly from her heart, spiced with wit and jollity! The guests’ reactions were awesome. They truly loved her!

Her favorite song? Love Is A Many Splendored Thing! She said that was her theme song for the man she deeply loved, the late George, Sr. Yet, every one knows that her love encompasses romantic affection; it reaches out to all her children and grand children and touches the lives of many communities she serves.

Felisa Chiongbian! As the song goes, “you’re just too good to be true!” My family loves you. Long live!

The Speechcom Summer Experience

Some 250 students participated in Speechcom International’s 31st Summer sessions in speech, rhetorics, grammar, spelling and public speaking! Playgroup, pre-schoolers, graders and high school delivered their numbers on centerstage with so much gusto! Speechcom acknowledges the parents’ confidence all these years.
