Tuesday, May 08, 2007 Tabotabo takes home Escudero cup
VINCE Mark Tabotabo added another feather in his cap as he pulled off a stellar performance to collar his fifth straight title this summer.
Tabotabo, a nine-year-old tennis star from the town of Tuburan in southern Cebu, who ranks third in the tournament, dropped the upset axe on second seed Eric Olivarez 6-4, 6-3, to take the 10-under division crown of the Escudero Cup at the Rizal Memorial tennis courts.
It was the second upset for Olivarez, who is a prominent fixture in various international competitions. Last week, Olivarez bowed down to Ernesto Gatdula in their semifinal encounter at the Dunlop Cup, in Laguna. The title, however, still went to Tabotabo.
He has three other titles tucked under his belt, which he won from different tournaments in the past month alone, in venues as far as Cagayan de Oro to Baguio City.
A few hours after yesterday’s win, Tabotabo was slated to plunge into action once more at the Toby’s tournament, which was still held at the same venue.
Tabotabo was set to take on Gatdula in the round of 64 in the Boys 12 division. He received a bye in the 10 under division. (MCB)
