Saturday, May 12, 2007 Beermen face Red Bull today
Game today (New Cebu Coliseum) 6:15 pm- San Miguel vs. Red Bull
CEBUANO fans of the Philippine Basketball Association will having a field day today when the PBA Fiesta Cup visits the New Cebu Coliseum for the game between the San Miguel Beermen and the Red Bull Barakos.
The last time Cebu hosted a PBA game was on Nov. 18, 2004, when the Talk N’ Text Phone Pals won over the Alaska Aces, 97-84.
After that, no more PBA game were held in Cebu City although last April 14, 2005, the town of Bogo, Cebu hosted the game where Alaska won over Coca Cola, 75-74, and in May 20, 2006 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex when Air 21 bested Brgy. Ginebra, 106-100.
For the Barakos, they consider the New Cebu Coliseum as their own court as during their last three games there, they won all their match ups.
This is the second time the Beermen and the Barakos will clash at the New Cebu Coliseum. In their first meeting, the Barakos won in overtime, 98-92.
Because of their 9-4 card, the Barakos can be considered the dark horse in this game over the Beermen, which totes a 5-7 record.
The Barakos are also coming off a 102-84 win over the Beermen in their first meeting this conference.
However, the Beermen cannot be taken lightly as they are on a four-game winning roll.
It is clear, though, that the Beermen have already adjusted to the absence of Dondon Hontiveros and Danny Seigle, who are both on the SMC-RP Team.
Galen Young provided the much-needed offensive effort for San Miguel with the departure of Hontiveros and Seigle.
Young immediately jelled with the rest of the Beermen, getting support from Danny Ildefonso, Olsen Racela and Chris Calaguio.
For their part, the Barakos will be playing without Mick Pennisi and Junthy Valenzuela. Pennisi is part of the RP Team, while Valenzuela is serving the last of his two-game suspension. (JSV)
