Tuesday, May 22, 2007 2 new councilors leave Mandaue brys. with heavy heart
WITH their entry to the next City Council of Mandaue, two incumbent barangay captains will turn over their duties to their respective councilors.
Tabok Barangay Captain Emiliano Rosal will be replaced by his first councilor, Dario Tariman, while Looc Barangay Captain Editha Cabahug will give way to Barangay Councilor Erlinda Tarona.
In separate interviews, Rosal and Cabahug, who ran under Thadeo Jovito Ouano’s party, said they will miss their jobs as barangay chiefs but they are ready to face the challenges ahead as legislators of Mandaue City.
Rosal is now on his last term as barangay captain while Cabahug still has a chance to seek reelection this year.
Rosal told Sun.Star Cebu that he is happy with his victory, considering it is his second attempt at being city councilor. However, he finds it incomplete because his candidate for mayor, Ouano, didn’t win.
Rosal said that his experience as barangay captain has exposed him to different branches of government – executive, legislative and judiciary.
He said he will enter the council with all the patience he has mustered as a barangay captain.
He said that what he will miss the most is his “direct contact” with the people.
3 Cabahugs
Rosal, who was awarded outstanding barangay captain in 2005, credits his diligence and qualifications for his win this year.
For her part, Cabahug will replace her husband, Raul, in the council where he served for three straight terms. She landed on the 10th slot for councilor.
During the campaign, she had appealed for people to vote for her even if her name would be the last in their list.
She was also ready to accept defeat, considering there were three Cabahugs running for councilor.
Editha edged out incumbent Councilor Elmer Cabahug, who landed on 11th place.
Former city councilor Sol Cabahug also failed to make it.
She would have been ready to go back to her work as barangay captain had she failed in her council bid.
She had planned to run for her second term with the barangay elections in October.
Even if she will not be so active in her barangay anymore, Cabahug said she will see to it that her projects will continue. (AAG)
